At Honilands Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that our pupils stay safe online, both in and out of school. With technology playing an increasing role in everyday life, it is essential that children learn how to use the internet responsibly and safely. We strive to equip our pupils with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world confidently, while protecting themselves from online risks.

Our Approach to Online Safety

We integrate online safety education into our curriculum to ensure our pupils understand the importance of staying safe online. Through lessons, assemblies, and workshops, we teach pupils about topics such as:

  • Understanding privacy settings on social media platforms.
  • Cyberbullying awareness and prevention.
  • The importance of creating strong passwords and protecting personal information.
  • Recognising inappropriate content and knowing what to do if they come across it.
  • Safe use of gaming platforms and responsible digital behaviour.

We also have robust internet filtering and monitoring systems in place to ensure a safe digital environment for learning within the school. All staff members receive regular training on safeguarding and online safety, ensuring that they are well-prepared to support pupils in managing online challenges.

Supporting Parents

We understand that parents and carers play a crucial role in keeping children safe online at home. To support you in this responsibility, we encourage regular conversations with your children about their internet use and recommend setting up appropriate parental controls on the devices they use.

Here are some helpful websites with tips and resources for keeping your child safe online:

  • UK Safer Internet Centre: Offers advice and resources on various aspects of internet safety.
  • ThinkUKnow:A website from the National Crime Agency providing information about staying safe online, for both children and parents.
  • NSPCC Online Safety: Offers practical advice on parental controls and how to talk to children about online dangers.
  • Childnet: Provides guidance on helping children make smart choices online.
  • Internet Matters: Offers tools and resources to support parents in managing online safety at home.

By working together, we can ensure that our children have the skills and understanding to enjoy the digital world safely and responsibly. If you have any questions or concerns about online safety, please feel free to contact the school, and we will be happy to provide further support.
